Quadesto vs TradingView Widgets
TradingView widgets show TradingView charts. Quadesto embeds show your data, your way.
The TradingView widget ecosystem
TradingView has built the best stock charting platform in the world. Their free widgets let anyone embed basic price charts on their website or newsletter. For simple 'show me the stock price' use cases, TradingView widgets are unbeatable — free, well-designed, and universally recognized.
But TradingView widgets have a fundamental limitation: they show TradingView's data in TradingView's format with TradingView's branding. You can't bring your own data, run your own calculations, or remove their brand.
What TradingView widgets can do
Price charts: Candlestick, line, area, bar charts for any ticker in TradingView's database. Includes basic technical indicators (SMA, RSI, MACD).
Market overview widgets: Watchlists, tickers, market heat maps, economic calendars.
Integration: Substack has native TradingView support. Most CMSes can embed TradingView via iframe.
Free: All widgets are free to use. No API key, no account required for basic embeds.
What TradingView widgets can't do
Custom data: You can't upload your own CSV or connect your own API. TradingView widgets only show data from TradingView's feed.
Custom calculations: You can't compute yield spreads, credit spreads, probability trees, or any derived metric. The indicators available are limited to TradingView's built-in list.
Finance-specific charts: No vol surfaces, no yield curves with interpolation, no options chain tables, no FedWatch tools. TradingView is built for technical analysis of price charts, not broader financial analysis.
Brand control: Every widget says 'TradingView' at the bottom. For professional publications and client-facing materials, this third-party branding can be problematic.
No AI: No automatic data analysis, no chart type suggestion, no natural language refinement.
Quadesto's approach
Quadesto takes the opposite approach to TradingView widgets. Instead of showing one data provider's data in one format:
Bring any data source: CSV, JSON, REST API, 15 pre-built provider connections.
AI-powered analysis: Upload data and Quadesto proposes the optimal visualization with correct methodology.
30+ chart types: Including financial-specific types that TradingView widgets don't offer.
Computation engine: 90+ functions to derive new metrics from raw data.
Brand control: On Pro, embeds carry no Quadesto branding. The chart looks native to your site.
Using both
Many finance publishers use TradingView widgets for quick stock price references and Quadesto for deeper analysis. A newsletter post might include a TradingView widget showing AAPL's price action alongside a Quadesto embed showing the options vol surface and a computed yield spread. The tools complement each other well.
